Erskine Seminary Announces New Faculty Member

[DUE WEST, SC, June 1, 2022] Erskine Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Doctor Matthew S. Miller (D.Min., Ph.D. Cand.) as Associate Professor of Pastoral and Historical Theology and Director of the Master of Theology degree program. Dr. Miller has served Erskine in the past as the Executive Director of the seminary’s Greenville extension site and as an Adjunct Professor of Divinity. More recently, he has pursued a PhD while serving as the City Director for the C.S. Lewis Institute in Greenville.

Dr. Miller has a B.A. in Economics from Wake Forest University (Phi Beta Kappa), an M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, a Th.M. from Erskine Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. from Erskine Theological Seminary. Ordained as a minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church since 2008, he served the Greenville ARP Church for more than ten years, first as an Associate Minister of Christian Education and then, for nearly nine years, as the Senior Minister. He has served on numerous committees and ministries in the ARP Synod and Second Presbytery, including chairing the Synod’s “Special Committee on the Directory of Private/Family Worship” and serving for three years as the Director of the Family Bible Conference. He is also licensed in the Presbyterian Church in America to provide pulpit supply to churches in Calvary Presbytery.

Dr. Miller is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Bristol, researching Genevan theologian Bénédict Pictet (1655–1724), the last of the Reformed orthodox theologians in Geneva after Calvin. Additionally, he is the translator of French Reformed theologian Pierre Courthial’s A New Day of Small Beginnings (2018) and The Bible as the Sacred Text of the Covenant (forthcoming). Dr. Miller’s first book is due out later this year on the role of Harold O. J. Brown in the early origins of the evangelical pro-life movement. He has written numerous articles for TableTalk magazine’s online and print editions. He lives in Greenville, SC, with his wife, Lindsay, and their three children.
